Simplex Insurance Solutions Branch Manager for our Kyneton office, Kate Fairley yesterday attended the community meeting in Lancefield and although we hope that there is no further loss of property as a result of these fires, Simplex Insurance Solutions wishes to share this general advice in the hope that it may be of assistance to those affected and help them to prepare.
“If you have insurance and your property is at risk, please make time to take photos or video of your property so you can provide what’s called “Proof of Loss” should you need to make a claim. In their efforts to save your home, the CFA may bulldoze structures and fencing to create fire breaks and if there’s nothing left but the slab it can be very difficult to prove the dimensions of structures etc. and cause delays. You might consider taking important documents (council permits, certificate of title, insurance policies etc.) to a friend/family member who lives outside the danger zone to ensure your claim can proceed as quickly as possible.
After lodging your claim, an insurance assessor/loss adjuster will be appointed and the more information you can give them the easier it will be for your insurer to authorise repairs and get you back on your feet.”
This information is general in nature and does not take your specific needs or circumstances into consideration. Please consult your insurance broker before making any decisions regarding your insurance.
